First competitions - and first awards

Have just taken a few minutes to take stock.
Some of my fiends will know that I have had a persistent shoulder injury for almost a year and a half now, and have been attending physio since February. Had been driving home today from it and just thinking where the time had gone, when the phone give a bleep which indicates some online activity.
Now normally it is someone commenting or liking a photograph which I love, but this time it was to inform me that my image had won image of the day.

I don't think there are many photographers that do not enter competitions. We can be kind of narcissistic when it comes to our work. Fortunately I do not think I'm that far yet but keeping an eye out for that change!! lol
Perhaps that is why after almost 5 years of wedding and portrait photography I have not entered any competitions.

That changed this week. Decided that all the behind the scenes work that goes on never mind the immense work load for online posting that this just is not going to ease off until or unless I start to employ someone to do this all for me.

So last week I entered my first competition. It was for best bouquet arrangements, and it ended up getting into the top 20%. Now I know that is not really much to brag about, but for me it was a nice feeling. First ever entry and it made it that far.
This week I seen an advert for portrait competition and thought, I will give it a go and see how it goes.

Now back to today's phone beep. It was a notification to let me know I had won the best image for the day with a wedding portrait of Lauren.

This competition thing could get addictive!! - oh no is this the start of the photographer's narcissistic syndrome!!! lol

That mean I can call myself an award winning photographer now! uhm lol

Anyway, just wanted to blog this, ever so small as it may be, it is a nice feeling to have photographers from through out the world judging my work into first place.

Take care and be safe

Mark

Jamie's Gym Model Photography in Portadown Northern Ireland

Here are some photographs from the latest model shoot with Jamie.
Jamie had started preparation for the latest NIFMA contest several months ago, but a few weeks back he felt unwell for a while and make the call that it may have disrupted his prep leaving him not in the best condition for it.
So on the morning of the actual contest he asked if we could go to our local gym to photograph him as his own personal record of the condition he achieved.
It's been a while since I photographed Jamie, but I was amazed as his condition, and felt that if he had have entered the contest I am sure he would have done extremely well.
But below are Jamie's image.

Latest studio shoot with male model Carlos Djalo

Just finished editing my latest shoot with Carlos. Its never disappointing to meet Carlos either to chat with of photograph as he has always the same warm in inviting personality.

Carlos contacted me a couple of weeks back to see if I would be interested in doing a low key shoot. This is a technique of giving the images a slight under exposed look. We didn't go full low key but did try and give that darker atmospheric feel to them.

So his portfolio was missing this kind of look plus body shots/underwear modelling, which I felt combined together would give a great look for him.

Below are a few of the images from that session.

As you will agree, Carlos is fast becoming one of Northern Ireland's top models and his work is certainly giving him amazing opportunities with top brands and names.

Jolene and Paul wedding at Inch Abbey reception at Ivanhoe Carryduff

Started editing the wedding photographs from the wedding of Jolene and Paul.

Had a fantastic day with this great couple and their families. The wedding took place in St. Patrick's in Downpatrick Northern Ireland with photographs at Inch Abbey in the same town.. We all then headed off to the Ivanhoe Hotel in Carryduff for the reception.
Though showers had been forecast for the day, the only shower which was pretty heavy occurred just as Jolene arrived at the church.
Below are a few selected photographs from the entire day.
More image will be available on Google+ and facebook later.
